Greta Thunberg
  • Greta Thunberg Assignment

Hello Class. Meet Greta. She is 16 years old and in high school.  . Her father is an actor, her mother is an opera singer. She is vegan. The entire family doesn’t fly. They drive an electric car and they use a sail boat as means of transportation. She has Asperger’s syndrome which means she is on the autistic spectrum.

Greta began spending her Fridays outside the Swedish Governments Parliament calling for stronger action on global warming by holding up a sign saying "School strike for climate". Soon, many students also participated in their own climate strikes.  She helped organize a weekly climate strike called Friday’s for Future in which eventually millions of students participated. She gained international attention when she spoke at the United Nations.  Her speech was direct, blunt and condemning.  It is in the links below. She has sparked protests globally as well as international debates.  She has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. On International Woman’s Day, Greta was named Sweden’s woman of the year. Time Magazine named her one of the 25 most influential teenagers of the year

Learn about Greta. Read about her, watch her videos and do some of your own research.  After you have formulated your own opinion about her and her work I want you to compose a letter to her.

Do you agree with what she is doing? Why or why not? Do you think it will help or solve any problems? Why or why not? If you could talk to her, what would you ask her? What would you say to her? Do you have any questions after your research on her? Are there any pieces you feel are missing that would lead you to a different conclusion?
