Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! My name is Mrs. Nicole Agozzino and I am honored to be teaching your child Algebra 1 this year! This will be my second year teaching at Long Branch High School and my 9th year teaching overall. I graduated from The College of Staten Island with my Bachelor's in Mathematics and Master's in Adolescent education grades 7-12. I am looking forward to a great year and working as a team to ensure your child's success!
My teaching philosophy is centered around the idea that all students can learn math to a higher level by creating/incorporating tasks that allow for:
-multiple entry points
-discussions and talking points
-students to make personal connections
-multiple representations and different approaches
-students to gain and apply feedback
-leadership and collaboration
-enrichment opportunities
-student choice
In order to support students in learning math to a higher level, time is spent at the start of the year and referred to throughout the year, on developing a growth mindset, practicing accountable talk, understanding the "Power of Yet", incorporating inspirational math tasks and referring to our positive math norms written by Jo Boaler.
