FRENCH 1 DESCRIPTION
French 1 is an introduction to French and focuses on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Activities focus on the development of interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational and communication skills. Vocabulary and grammatical structures are taught and communication and correct pronunciation are emphasized. The main goal of the course is to prepare students to be future-ready, well-rounded global citizens who can communicate effectively in French and have a basic understanding of the diversity of cultures in the French speaking world. Students in this course will learn French phonemes and basic vocabulary including numbers, colors, and greetings. Students will be expected to master proper French sentence constructions, articles and adjectives, subject-verb agreement, and regular and irregular verb conjugations. As part of the course, students will be provided opportunities to read, write, listen, and speak French while they work towards becoming linguistically and culturally literate. Additionally, students will be introduced to the culture of the people whose language is being studied as well as evolving climate issues in various geographical areas.
