• Parents always ask me how they can help their student select a book that is on their level . . .
Here in Long Branch, we assess the children at the beginning of the school year and again at the end of each marking period.  We let them know what their lexile level is.  Books that they choose to read should fall within a range of their actual score - no more than 50 or 100 points above or below.  If the topic of a text interests a student, they sometimes can read above their level due to background knowledge they may already have.  Books should not be too easy or too hard - we want to encourage our readers to be successful and feel successful.  Below are 3 ways you can help assist with their book selections:

This gives you the information to download an app (Android & Apple compatible) for scanning books to find the book's lexile.

This is a website that you can type book titles right into.  This is also a great resource if you are looking for more information about lexile numbers.

Type in the book's title and find out the lexile level - please me sure you click the lexile option before you search.

Please let me know if you need any help or have any questions!
