My name is Mrs. Simms and I am the Gregory and Lenna Conrow Media Specialist (Librarian) or the "Story Lady" as the children sometimes refer to me as. I would like to share an interesting fact about my own life with you. Ever since I was in 3rd grade at West End School, here in Long Branch, I knew I wanted to be a librarian. It all started when my third grade teacher asked me to be the Librarian in the school play. I went on to interview the school librarian and then home to do more researched on the role of the librarian. From that point on my destiny was decided and my future career goal was to become a school librarian.
I am a graduate of Long Branch High School and attended Georgian Court University where I recieved my degrees. Upon graduating from Georgian Court, I applied here in my hometown as a Librarian. I was hired in May 2000 a few days before my graduation by the Long Branch Board of Education as the Gregory School and West End School Media Specialist. Who would of thought the girl who dreamed of being a school librarian back in 1985 as a 3rd grader in West End School would return years later to fulfill that dream, not me.
After 24 years with the district, I can honestly say I am fulfilling my dream. I love everyday that I come to school and see the joy in children's eyes when they open a new book to read. Of course my job description as changed over the years and now I love my job even more adding in MakerSpace activities and Digital Citzenship.
In closing as one of my favorite books I Can Read With My Eyes Shut states, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." It is my hope that I can provide the children of Gregory School with a love of reading each and every day. After all After all you never know what adventure you may go on until you open a book and read.
