Hello! My name is Joanne Rohrman, and I teach 7th grade English/Language Arts at Long Branch Middle School. The 2018-19 school year will be my 21st year as a Long Branch teacher. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to work in this district, where children really do matter most. Here in Long Branch we have unparalleled resources to ensure that our students can reach their full academic potential.
My experience in Long Branch includes teaching at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels. I love reading and writing, so I am happy that my present assignment gives me the chance to share my enthusiasm with my students. This year students will read a variety of short stories, novels, and nonfiction pieces. They will try their hand at writing their own short stories, act in classroom plays, and learn to craft literary essays. They will becom experts at "proving" their statements about what they have read. In addition, we will be using the internet constantly to get information to answer questions that come up during the course of instruction. Knowledge is power!
A strong area of focus will be on developing a rich English vocabulary, with a firm foundation in word families. Students will be able to use a variety of online and print media to work on their word skills and expand their knowledge base.
The Read 180 program was developed to increase the reading competency level of students who show below-grade-level reading scores. My classes incorporate this program into a range of grade-level activities designed to help student move toward higher reading levels. We provide extensive support and frequent progress monitoring, and have a track record of success.
I look forward to a great year with your student! Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance.
