The Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) is a tool used to indicate a students lexile level in grades 2-8. The SRI is administered in school each marking period. During the SRI students begin by choosing 2-3 genres of literature that are interesting to them. Each student then receives reading passages based on the selected genre, and multiple choice questions to assess student comprehension. As students answer the assigned multiple choice questions their correct or incorrect responses are accounted for, and new passages are assigned. At the end of the session the students receive their lexile level. Additionally, the program offers a suggested reading list based on the student's genre interests and current lexile level.
